TURA: The District Disaster Management Authority, West Garo Hills, Tura organised a sensitization programme on Disaster Management Plan at Tura Circuit on Tuesday.

Giving a brief overview of disaster management activities in the district, Additional District Magistrate and Project Director, DRDA Ambrose C Marak said that due to the changing times and climate, every plan of disaster management has to be updated and reviewed annually.

He added that despite the existence of the Building Bye Laws, Tura is haphazardly planned with most of the existing buildings being old and in a dilapidated condition. Hence the need for preparedness for any eventuality is essential.

Marak informed that all stakeholders need to come together and identify the human and infrastructural resources which can be utilized when disasters strike. He also urged the heads of the institutions to come up with contingency plans in their respective institutions.

James D Sangma, ADPO, Revenue and Disaster Management Cell, Patrick Arengh, Project Officer, Disaster Risk Reduction also spoke on the occasion.
