SHILLONG: Despite being in favour of young leaders being awarded Congress ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly election in the State, Union Minister of State for Communication and Information and Technology, Sachin Pilot, on Tuesday observed that there should be a balance between the young and the experienced.

“The State already has a young dynamic Chief Minister in the form of Dr Mukul Sangma. But the party would be looking at a combination of youthfulness and experience while finalizing the list of party candidates,” Pilot said after addressing Congress workers in the presence of MPCC president DD Lapang and other senior ministers at Congress Bhavan here.

He believed that to prevent other parties from having an edge over the Congress, the party workers should start early preparation for the Assembly election scheduled early next year.

“Many parties and many flags will come up on the eve of the Assembly election and the Congress should start the election preparations at the earliest for a solid performance,” he said.

When pointed out that there were many ticket aspirants, Pilot said, “The large number of aspirants for the Congress ticket is an indication that people want Congress to come back to power.”

Earlier, MPCC president DD Lapang, while addressing the party workers, assured that the Congress members will work hard to ensure that the party comes back to power in Meghalaya in 2013.

Senior Congress minister and East Khasi Hills District Congress president Prestone Tynsong said that the party expects to win all the 10 seats in Shillong in the next election.

Another Congress Minister, AL Hek, said that the Congress would secure absolute majority in the next election and there would not be any need to seek support from any other political party to form the next government.
