NONGPOH: Taking strong exception over the dictatorial attitude of one of its party men, who illegally dissolved the United Democratic Party (UDP) Umsning Block Committee and even folded the party flag a few days ago, the UDP Ri-Bhoi District Unit expelled Lurshai Wahlang, president of the UDP Umsning Block from the party.
Field Marshal Mawphniang the UDP candidate from Umsning was asked to reconstruct the new party block committee.
This decision was taken in the hurriedly convened executive committee of the UDP Ri-Bhoi District held at Nongpoh on Tuesday.
Speaking to this scribe after the meeting, UDP Ri-Bhoi District president Donbok Khymdeit informed that the leaders and the party as a whole had expressed deep concern over the dictatorial attitude of Wahlang who illegally broke the party procedure by dissolving the block at Umsning and also folded the party flag without any authority.
The party also strongly denounced the actions of Lurshai Wahlang.
“Taking stern action against his illegal action and his involvement in folding the party flag to dissolve the party, the emergency executive committee meeting today took the decision to expel Lurshai Wahlang from the party and announced that he was no longer the party leader in the district and in the Umsning constituency as a whole,” said Khymdeit.
He further informed that the Umsning constituency is a new constituency created after delimitation and Umsning Block and its office bearers were only an Adhoc body which is yet to approved by the District UDP as per party procedure.
However, as most of the leaders were involved in the dissolution of the party, the executive meeting of the District UDP also decided to entrust FM Mawphniang, the UDP candidate from Umsning, with the task of dissolving the adhoc body and reconstituting a fresh body with new office bearers within June, Khymdeit added.
The others leaders of the District UDP who attended the emergency executive committee meeting included the District president Donbok Khymdeit, UDP youth wing working president Rayonold Kharkamni, District general secretary JD Muktieh, FM Mawphniang, joint secretary and candidate from Umsning Constituency, Nongpoh Candidate Rona Khymdeit and other party leaders.
