Need to improve rural education scenario: Mukul

 SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday stressed upon the need to establish residential schools in remote and inaccessible areas of the State in order to provide better educational facilities to the students of those areas.

Highlighting this at an award ceremony organised by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) through the Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle to felicitate the meritorious of the State at Khasi Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar Dr Sangma expressed concern at the huge difference between students studying in reputed schools and those studying in rural areas.

The chief minister also underlined the need to have an ‘enabling environment for a student to excel’ in their studies.

Dr Sangma informed that the Government, through the Voluntary Action Fund, has initiated capacity building which reduces dependence on Government, promotion of self-reliance and accelerated rural and tribal development through voluntary action.

“The total allocation of funds (in the programme) has been increased to Rs 5 crore from the year 2011-2012.

 Meanwhile, the function was also attended by MPCC president, DD Lapang, Mawkhar legislator Friday Lyngdoh, Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh among others.
