SHILLONG: His colleagues in politics, JD Rymbai (UDP) and Friday Lyngdoh (Congress) may have decided not to contest the next Assembly polls but for HSPDP supremo HS Lyngdoh there is no retirement from politics as yet.

The octogenarian recently said that he would contest from Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills and will improve the position of the party in other constituencies where the party will put up its candidates.

Dr Advisor Pariong, another HSPDP member in the Meghalaya Assembly, however, is keen to align with the Congress and to contest from the party in the next elections.

But the HSPDP chief said that Pariong had not communicated anything officially in this regard.

HSPDP, a coalition partner in the Congress-led MUA Government, has however ruled out any pre-poll alliance with other regional parties including UDP and KHNAM.

Though there were not many legislators elected from HSPDP in the past, in the coalition politics of Meghalaya where numbers matter, they played a crucial role in government formation.

A party source said that a separate state for Khasi-Jaintia people will be one of the points to be included in the HSPDP manifesto.

Efforts are also on from the HSPDP to rope in candidates from other political parties who wish to contest the 2013 polls.
