Decision on Prez candidate
By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: The UDP is likely to meet next week to take a final call on whom the party should support for the country’s Presidential elections due next month.

“We are expected to meet sometime next week to discuss the matter,” UDP Working President Bindo M Lanong told The Shillong Times here on Saturday.

When asked whether the party would unanimously decide to support former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma since he hails from the State, Lanong said that it is difficult to comment anything unless the party officially decides on the matter.

Earlier, UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy had extended his support to the veteran leader for staking his claim to the country’s highest post.

“It would be a proud moment for the State if Purno Sangma becomes the President,” Dr Roy had said.

However, the UDP president had also pointed out that his party was yet to take a final call on the matter while expressing hope that the party leaders would share the same views over Sangma’s candidature for the post of the President.
