NONGPOH: Seven days after the ‘dictatorial dissolution’ of the Umsning UDP Block Committee by the ‘disgraced’ Block Committee President Lurshai Wahlang, the party reconstituted a new Block Committee on Saturday at a general meeting held at Umsning.

The meeting was attended by UDP Ri-Bhoi District President and Mawhati MLA Donbok Khymdeit, Umsning Party Candidate F M Mawphniang in the presence of over 500 active workers and supporters of the party.

The newly elected office bearers of the party are Gilbert Nongrum as President, party candidate from Umsning Constituency F M Mawphniang as the Working President, along with three vice presidents namely S Maring, Elfin Umbah and K Rani. The post of general secretary was entrusted to B Sylliang.

The post of party Joint Secretary was handed over to O.S. Marngar, S Jyrwa, R Makhroh while Sofia Kharkrang was named as Finance Secretary and J Mawlong as Adviser.

The meeting also entrusted Jeny Diengdoh as the Convenor of the Women’s Wing and the convenors of the Youth Wing would be Robes Kylla, Emri Kurbah and Founding Manih with the post of Convenor of Farmer Wing going to Borsing Nongbri, Agra Marbaniang, and H Nongbsap.

Addressing the gathering, Khymdeit lashed out against Wahlang for dissolving the Umsning Block Committee for his own ‘self vested interest’ as he did not get a party ticket for contesting from Umsning Constituency.

He also said that Wahlang’s action will have no bearing on the party as the party supporters and the people are still very much with the party and the party flag is still waving high.

Firing at the Congress Party, the Mawhati MLA said that the people are fed up with the Congress for the leaders are engaged in tussle of powers and thereby neglecting developmental works in the state. In this regard, he said that in the next assembly election the UDP will come to power as the people will repose their faith in the party.

The others who spoke included Rayonald Kharkamni, Working President UDP Youth Wing Ri-Bhoi District, Rona Khymdeit, UDP candidate of Nongpoh, TS Sun, candidate from Umroi, JD Muktieh, UDP secretary Ri-Bhoi District among others.

The meeting was presided by FM Mawphniang.
