Former NEHU V-C nominated to Rajya Sabha

 New Delhi: The President of India has nominated former Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, Prof Mrinal Miri and former Solicitor General and Attorney General of the country, K Parasaran, an eminent jurist, to the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Friday.

The two eminent personalities have been nominated under Article 80 of the Constitution, Chidambaram said.

The President had approved the recommendations by the UPA Government to nominate Parasaran and Prof Miri to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Prof Miri had been appointed against the vacancy caused by the demise of Dr Ram Dayal Munda. His term will be up to March 21, 2016, while Parasaran has been appointed to the Upper House for a term of six years.

Both the eminent persons are Padma Vibhushan awardees.
