SHILLONG: The Brahma-putra Board is yet to give its nod to State government’s flood management programme.
Informing this, the state Water Resources Minister AL Hek on Wednesday said the Board has returned the file with some queries. The Board has questioned the clearance from the forest department as well as sought some data from Deputy Commissioner’s office, Hek, who is now in Kerala, said.
It may be mentioned that the State Water Resources department has prepared Rs 50-crore Detailed Project Report (DPR) for flood management programme.
The Minister said his department has completed all the exercises needed for expediting the project.
“The DPR now will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Water Resources through the Board,” Hek said.
The proposed flood management programme is expected to give the much needed relief to the plain belt of Garo Hills as the flash floods has created havoc in plain belt areas of Garo Hills after more than 14000 households were affected.
The programme would take care of the agricultural lands besides it would also address the issue of soil erosion from the rivers.
The programme will also tackle flood created by the rivers Wahumkhrah and Umshyrpi, especially during the monsoon as under the programme, the State Government plans to construct proper drains on the small streams which lead to Wahumkhrah.
The Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent Pala has assured to release fund required to implement the flood management programme.
