Kidnapped businessmen, SBI cashier released

 TURA: An cashier of the SBI Songsak branch, Abdul Halim Ali, and two businessmen, Mithoo Prasad and Binoy Karmakar, who were kidnapped from Songsak-Mendipathar road on June 23 and Deku Bazaar in Chokpot on June 28 respectively, were released by their captors.

Ali, who was kidnapped by Liberation Achik Elite Force (LAEF) militants, was released at Daurgre area in East Garo Hills district on Wednesday morning, while the two businessmen, who were kidnapped by GNLA cadres, were released near Baromile, Dalu Road in West Garo Hills.

Sources informed that Mithoo Prasad and Binoy Karmakar were released and are now back at home but at a price.

Allegedly, the families of the two businessmen had paid a large amount of ransom for their release.

Ali’s abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs ten lakh for his release.

“Halim has been released but I am yet to get the full details,” Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch) Tennyson Dkhar said.

However, intelligence officials said the abducted cashier was freed after his family members paid a ransom amount of Rs five lakh. (With inputs from UNI)
