TURA: A nine-year-old girl child, returning home on Sunday afternoon at Soshanghat locality of Tura town, drowned after being swept away by the water current close to her home.

The child was returning from Sunday school with her brother and was crossing the stream through a makeshift bridge when her umbrella fell into the water. In desperation to get hold of it she tried to pull at the handle but was dragged into the water by the strong currents even as her elder brother tried in vain to save her.

Her body was recovered further down stream in Doldegre locality of New Tura by some local fishermen from the same locality who had gone to catch fish when they were alerted about the tragedy upstream.
