SHILLONG: A solid 2-0 lead at half time was not enough to ensure Malki SC victory over Meghalaya Police Football Football Team (MLP FT) at the J. N. Stadium on Thursday as the game took a twist in the second half with the latter staging a comeback to level the scores and avoid what looked like a certain defeat in the SPL encounter.

The opening goal came early, with Malki SC’s Kitborlang doing well to find the corner of the nets. Malki then dominated possession and had the policemen on the backfoot after taking the lead. Under constant pressure, MLPFT allowed Malki to score its second goal in the 44th minute after a clean cross from Timmy to Michael Bassey was converted by the latter.

MLPFT on the other hand missed two opportunities, the first one by Rijied War followed by Niwan-o-Ghatphoh who barely missed the net by inches.

Crossing over, there was a sudden surge of energy shown by the policemen and several near opportunities later, their hard work finally paid off when in a span of a minute, MLPFT scored two goals to equalise and come right back into the match. Substitute Embhami made a timely pass to skipper Milton who took a shot and scored MLP FT’s first goal in the 78th minute as Niwan-o-Ghatphoh followed it up with a superb gaol to make it 2-2 for his side. However, no further additions were made to the scorecard and both the sides had to settle for a 2-2 draw. A red card was issued to MLP FT stopper Kyrkhu for misconduct during te injury time .

On Saturday, Shillong Lajong FC will play while the second game will see Rangdajied United face-off against Langsning FC at 4:00pm.
