Shillong: The FKJGP on Friday shut down six shops located at Iewduh after it was found that the shops were running without trading licenses.

The Federation had conducted a surprise inspection and the shops belonging to Bibhu Paul, Raju Paul, Dukal Sushil, Bimal Ghosh, Ramesh Nath and Ropan Ghosh were closed.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, FKJGP central-body secretary Marbud Dkhar said that besides not possessing trading license, the concerned people did not even have valid documents including EPIC card to prove that they are Indian citizens.

Following the inspection, the FKJGP has also sought an explanation from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on the matter.

Meanwhile, defending his stand KHADC Executive Member Finance Antonio N War said the Council is doing everything possible to keep a check on such illegal activities and its officers conduct time-to-time checking on the matter.

“The EM has assured to take initiatives to ensure that people obtained trading license and required permission from the Council”, FKJGP secretary said.

The KHADC and FKJGP also agreed to conduct a joint inspection in commercial areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Council.
