Paes-Vesnina reach semis

LONDON: Leander Paes and his partner Elena Vesnina on Friday stormed into the semifinals of mixed doubles competition after a straight set win over Paul Hanley Alla and Kudryavtseva in the Wimbledon.

The Indo-Russian pair took just 57 minutes to record a 6-2, 6-2 win over Australia’s Hanley and Russia’s Kudryavtseva on court number 18 at the All England Club.

Paes and Vesnina will take on the winner of the match between top seeds American pair of Bob Bryan and Liezel Huber and eight seeds Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Julia Goerges of Germany.

The fourth seeded Indo-Russian Pair converted four of the five chances that came their way but their rivals failed to convert even one of the two opportunities that they got.

Hanley and Kudryavtseva sent down two aces about they double faulted twice and could not break the Indo-Russian pair even once as Paes and Vesnina wrapped up the first set in just 24 minutes.

In the second set, the Australian-Russian pair sent down four aces but Paes and Vesnina rode on their second serve conversion rate to tame their rivals. They also converted two of the three chances while their rivals failed to break them even once although they had two opportunities.

The Indo-Russian pair wrapped up the match in another 33 minutes to seal their place in the semifinals.
