Imphal: The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) Wednesday pushed for passing of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the current monsoon session of the state assembly.

The campaign on implementation of ILP system has been an impetuous demand of numerous NGOs and other student organizations in the state but the movement that has been gaining momentum in the last about two weeks is spearheaded by Joint Committee on ILP System.

Joining the campaign, MPP staged a sit-in outside its office building here on the demand for reintroduction of ILP in the state.

Talking to reporters, MPP president S Umananda, who was also participating the sit-in protest, said ILP should be approved and passed in the current monsoon session of the state assembly.

The MPP has been relentlessly working in the interest of the people besides the party also has a firm stand to protect the state integrity, Umananda stated.

The lone regional political party in the state had said that opposition by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in implementing ILP in Manipur was against the provisions of Article 19 of the Indian Constitution. (NNN)
