SHILLONG: The Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM), which is known all over for its innovations, came up with a new innovation in its campus.

A solar power plant to meet the institute’s power requirements was inaugurated by Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister, Assam on Friday.

The 50KW power plant was set up in the institute to provide clean energy to the RGIIM.

Gogoi, who is on his first visit to the campus, said that apart from solar energy, efforts should also be made to conserve ground water and stands should be taken for promoting the concept of rainwater harvesting which could greatly benefit the state.

It may be mentioned that RGIIM is also working in the sector of rainwater harvesting.

Gogoi pointed out that lack of industrial development and employment opportunities are the main factors contributing in the insurgency scenario in the region and opined that economic development and employment opportunities can only resolve this issue.
