Demanding dismissal of the state government for “failure on law and order front”, the RTI activist demanded a CBI inquiry on the assault on the girl. “Both the assault on her as well as the assault on me that was done by Youth Congress workers at Nalbari last week should be probed by the CBI.

Such crimes are all of same magnitude and point to the total collapse of law and order in the state,” Gogoi said. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) which showed that the rate of violent crimes in Assam was the third highest in the country in 2011.

“The state police DGP is aware of where the molesters of the girl are hiding. He is aware of who was behind the attack on me. But the official is helpless in face of pressure from the government who are hell bent to protecting the criminals,” he said. (PTI)
