Imphal: The Animal Gym has gifted gym items worth Rs 7, 70,000 to the Manipur Sajiwa Central Jail, Imphal with an aim to make all the prisoners in the jail have a good physique and stay healthy.

The materials were distributed by RK Bishworjit, founder of Animal Gym during a simple function held at the premises of Sajiwa Jail. The function was also attended by IB Muivah, Superintendant of Police, Sajiwa Jail.

Speaking during the event, RK Bishorjit said the presentation of gym materials to the inmates of Sajiwa Jail is the first step ever taken up by Animal Gym with the main object to make the inmates healthy and tension free.

He said the Animal Gym has made this contribution with the support of CNN-IBN and Reliance Foundation, adding that gymkhana brings change in one’s lifestyle and that many have abstained from using drugs after joining gym.

All the prisoners will not stay in the prison for life but they will be released after serving their respective jail terms, Bishorjit added.

He added that he wants to see them healthy when they are freed from the jail and maintained that change can be seen just after three months of exercise and training.

If one eats enough vegetables and drinks four to five litres of water every day there will be no any harm in carrying out body building exercise, Bisworjit said when an inmate asked him if there is any health risk to exercise with the food supplied by the jail authority to them.

SP Muivah who was also speaking at the function underscored the need of setting up of one fitness centre at every prison in the state.

As the number of inmates is big, a routine should be maintained so as to enable them to exercise in turn, the SP suggested, saying that the jail authority will allow the inmates to bring food supplement if they want it.

Later, body builders from Animal Gym also performed a demonstration and Bisworjit presented a complete guide on gym exercise to the inmates. (NNN)
