Shillong: The Lumkshaid Dorbar Shnong on Tuesday presented awards to meritorious students of the locality who had excelled in their respective examinations, at a function held at the Community Hall of the Lumkshaid Durbar Shnong, Mawprem here.

Headman of Lumkshaid Durbar Shnong, R Kharkongor, stated that this is the first time that the Dorbar Shnong has organised the programme intended to encourage the young minds to strive further for a better and bright future.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Jaiaw legislator Paul Lyngdoh, said that amidst stiff competitions the great stalwarts in history had managed to make their name through their hard work and perseverance.

“It is a great challenge for the present generation and we have to strive harder in every way while looking towards our goals and objectives,” Lyngdoh said.

Terming ‘sacrifice’ as the only formula for achievement, the Jaiaw legislator said that at some point of time, sacrifices have to be made to achieve something.

“The ones who achieve success are the ones who have faced a lot of obstacles in their lives,” Lyngdoh added.

Lyngdoh also stated that great thinkers are the ones who do not act while men of action are the ones who never think, adding that the challenge for the present generation is to act and think at the same time.
