SHILLONG: Goals by Beekay Bawar and Bickyson Kharkongor helped Royal Wahingdoh FC secure a comfortable victory against Shillong Lajong FC in a SPL match at the JNSC on Tuesday.

Playing as a unit, the Royals did well in maintaining composure throughout and scored two goals in the latter half of the match. Lajong’s Boithang almost found his side a goal in the 42nd minute after taking a shot following a diversion, but Royal Wahingdoh FC custodian Saroj made a brilliant save to keep the scores at nil before halftime.

Two minutes into the second half, Wahingdoh’s Milancy made a ground pass to Beekay inside the box, who in turn, calmly slotted the ball past Aibormiky to give his side the lead. The duo of Milancy and Beekay looked dangerous throughout the second half and created several opportunities. Lajong almost equalised in the 70th minute when Th. Bipin Singh took a shot on target from the left flank. However, the ball deflected off the post to deny him a goal. Bickyson scored Royal’s second goal in the 74th minute with a wonderful shot that beat the keeper and went into the nets.

Several failed attempts to score eventually cost Shillong Lajong the match with their last chance coming in the 90th minute. Seikhohao took a shot barely five feet away from the goal but RWFC keeper Saroj made a point blank save.
