Shillong: In a new twist to the recent fast-unto-death over the unresolved Langpih border row, traditional heads and elders of Raid Mynsaw have claimed that Pynskhemlang Nongshlong had broken the fast on his own with a traditional rice soup (Um Shet Ja) following request from members of the People’s Movement and the traditional heads.
“We were shocked after seeing in the media that he (Nongshlong) had accused Ardent Basiawmoit of making a false and premature announcement that the agitators had called off their fast-unto-death. The fact is that Nongshlong along with other agitators had on their own willingly called off their agitation,” the traditional heads and elders of Raid Mynsaw, in a joint press statement on Wednesday, claimed.
They questioned Nongshlong for making such accusations against Basaiawmoit a day after willingly calling off his agitation.
“We were surprised that Nongshlong had decided to continue with his fast-unto-death the following day. He is trying to mislead the general public by making a false claim that he had never called off his fast-unto-death,” the traditional heads and elders said.
“We fail to understand how he can claim to have continued with his fast-unto-death when he had already broken the fast with the traditional soup,” they added.
