SHILLONG: The HNYF has urged the State Government to keep the implementation of the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in Meghalaya in abeyance till the rate is revised to be at par with other states of the country.

“The price of the HSRP in the State is very high in comparison with other states,” HNYF’s chief organising secretary B Susngi said in a memorandum submitted to Transport Minister AT Mondal here on Thursday.

He said that the rate of HSRP in Delhi is Rs 213.24 for four wheelers and Rs 68.91 for two wheelers.

“At the same time, the rate of the HSRP in Goa is Rs 270 for two wheelers and Rs 465 for four wheelers including passenger vehicles,” Susngi said adding that in Jammu the rate is fixed for all vehicles at Rs 401.

When compared with other States in the country, HNYF Chief Organising Secretary said people of Meghalaya are forced to pay a huge amount HSRP.

“In other parts of the country the price of the HSRP does not exceed Rs 500. But in our state the cost of HSRP is Rs 1950 which is triple the amount as compared with other States,” Susngi said.
