SHillong : Samson Nongrum scored four spectacular goals, three in the first half, to help Malki SC down Lawmali Pyllun SC 6-4 at a Shillong Premier League match at JNSC on Thursday. The high-scoring match saw a goal scored in the very first minute with Malki’s Kitborlang doing the honours.
However, it didn’t take long for Lawmali to equalise and make a statement with Lansing Kharumnuid finding his way past the Malki defence to eventually score in the 18th minute.
Lawmali Pyllun did well in the initial stages to contain the favourites, but towards the end of the first half, Samson came into action to play spoilsport. He scored the second goal for his side in the 31st minute and followed it with two stunners in the 41st and 45th minutes while playing the perfect role up front in the absence of foreign striker Michael Bassey.
Malki secured their fifth goal in the 61st minute when Godfrey Dekker produced a nimble right footer past the goalkeeper. However, two minutes later, Lawmali’s Pyndaplang made a fine cross to Lansing who beat Larry to the goal. In the 81st minute, Samson was again in action, facing Lawmali’s custodian Wanlambor in a one-to-one situation. The in-form striker took a ground shot that went past Wanlambor, giving him his fourth goal.
Despite being down 2-6, Lawmali Pyllun looked determined to put up a fight and went on the offensive. The tactic paid off and in the 88th minute when Pyndaplang scored a decent goal. A minute later, Balashemphang released a beautiful ball from the left flank that hit the corner of the goal and in the process, helped his side restore some pride against their favoured opponents.
