New Delhi: A large delegation of the North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) led by its chairman DD Lapang met AICC president Sonia Gandhi at her residence on Monday and discussed the party’s preparedness for the coming Assembly polls in as many as three states including Meghalaya.
Gandhi reminded the delegation that the three states cover almost half of the North Eastern region of which the Congress is in power only in Meghalaya. United efforts should be on not only to retain power in Meghalaya but also to wrest the power from CPM-ruled Tripura and DAN-ruled Nagaland, she urged the party men.
Gandhi also urged the leaders to work unitedly and energise the party from the grassroots level. Only then the party can come back to power in all the three states, she said.
She also urged the leaders to take up developmental work in the region known for its backwardness. The leaders also suggested that
Rahul Gandhi should visit the region to oversee the ground work before the polls.
