RESUBELPARA: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday inaugurated North Garo Hills District, fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of the people of Resubelpara and the adjoining area. The new district was created by upgrading Resubelpara civil sub-division.

It was the first in a set of four new districts carved out of the existing seven recently.

The need for the upgradation of Resubelpara Civil Sub Division into a full fledged district was set in motion in 1995 under the banner of North Garo Hills District Demand Committee led by Willingbirth R Marak.

Congratulating people of North Garo Hills, Dr Sangma stressed on the need to create an advantageous atmosphere for sustainable growth in the region. He said that the people of North Garo Hills needed to create a conducive environment to enable officers posted in the region to work unhindered.

“When we work together to achieve an objective through peaceful ways we can attain it” Dr Sangma said adding that an undemocratic approach to any purpose was detrimental to progress.

Stating that land acquisition was necessary for the development of infrastructure in the new district, he urged the people of the region to generously offer land for the purpose.
