‘Ganol project to get off the ground soon’

 Shillong: Power Minister AT Mondal has informed that four bidders had applied for executing the Ganol hydel project to supply electricity to Tura and adjoining areas. The government has evaluated the matter with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) recently.

Talking to this scribe here recently, Mondal said the government is expecting an early execution of the work.

During his meeting with the Chairman, CEA, AS Bakshi recently, Mondal had asked the chairman to expedite the matter. Mondal informed that the CEA would be sending its reply very soon.

The Ganol hydel project was meant to be taken up in 2007 but had failed to take off. It had to be revived in 2008 but the then MPA government for refusing to push this project for political reasons.

Recently, chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma had blamed the MPA for delay in execution of work of the Ganol project stating that this delay had done a lot of damage to the state.

Dr Sangma had also informed that it would take nothing short of 36 months for completion of the project and that funds are already available with the MeECL through the NLCPR fund.
