SHILLONG: The Finance department has sought clarification from the PHE department on some of the components of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase III which is funded under JNNURM.

“The Finance department is dissatisfied with the way the PHE is implementing certain components of the scheme,” official sources informed here on Monday.

If the reply given by the PHE is not satisfactory, official sources said that the Finance department can even delay the release of the funds from the State share for the scheme.

It may be recalled that PHE had sought another extension from the Government for implementation of the project. “The PHE has now sought a fresh deadline to complete the project by September 2013,” official sources said.

This is the third time that the department has sought extension to complete the project since its implementation several months ago.

Even though the original deadline is June 2012, the PHE had initially sought an extension to complete the project by September 2012.

“In April this year the PHE asked for another extension to complete the project by March 2013. At this rate the project is likely to face another roadblock, ” official sources said.

Looking at the manner in which the project is implemented, official sources said they would not be surprised to see the department seeking another extension after the September 2013 deadline ends.
