Army jawan killed in ULFA blast

 Guwahati: An Army jawan was killed and six others were injured when an Army truck was damaged in a bomb blast on the National Highway 37 in Goalpara district of lower Assam at around 10-20am on Tuesday.

A defence spokesman here informed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was exploded under an Army convoy near Naranarayan Setu on the River Brahmaputra at Jogighopa . An army truck was damaged in the impact that killed one jawan and injured six others.

The Army convoy was coming from Kokrajhar to Agia in Goalpara. The injured jawans were shifted to the Army Base Hospital at Basistha in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), anti-talks faction, claimed responsibility for the blast under the Army convoy. The ULFA publicity secretary Arunodoy Ason in an e-mailed statement claimed tat three army jawans were killed in the blast.
