Actor Sharad Malhotra, who is making his Bollywood debut with

“From Sydney With Love”, says the movie is a “fam-com” (family comedy), with no double meaning dialogues.

“My upcoming film is full of comedy, but not with double-meaning jokes. It is a ‘fam-com’. This term has never been used before, but it means family comedy as a family can sit together and enjoy it,” Sharad told IANS.

The actor first earned popularity on the small screen with “Banoo Main Teri Dulhan”, in which he played the role of a man with the mind of a nine-year-old child.

His film, directed by Prateek Chakravorty, and produced by Pramod Films, is releasing Friday – the same date as Pooja Bhatt’s “Jism 2”.

Asked whether it may be a tough competition for his film, Sharad said: “Well, they are big names, but I can only say that if they have ‘Jism’, we have ‘jaan’ (soul).”

In “From Sydney With Love”, the 29-year-old plays a Delhi-based Punjabi boy who goes to Sydney to pursue his studies in Sydney. Sharad says he could relate to the character very well.

“I play a boy called Rohit Khurana. He is a typical Delhi Punjabi munda (boy), who loves to dance and enjoy his life and believes in love at first sight,” said Sharad, who is from Kolkata, but belongs to a Punjabi family in real life.

His first tryst with showbiz came when he was chosen as the Face of the Year in Kolkata in 2003.

In the next year, he participated in talent hunt show “Zee Cine Star Ki Khoj”. It opened the doors for several advertisements. He did his first TV show “Banoo Main Teri Dulhan” in 2006. After the success of the show, he took a break and went to New York Film Academy (NYFA) to study further.

“I am very lucky that my first show was a major hit as I entertained people in a different way and for a long time. After that I decided to take a break and go to New York for my film studies,” said Sharad, who is also a trained dancer. (IANS)
