SHILLONG: Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma has called it quits to State politics.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday he announced that that he would never contest any future state election from Meghalaya.

Asked whether he would be contesting in the 2013 State assembly elections, the former Chief Minister said “I will not enter state politics anymore.”

He also made it clear that he was not interested in being elected to the Rajya Sabha, as he desired to win a direct election.

“I may not even contest the Lok Sabha elections from Meghalaya. There are around 50 reserved seats in the country. I can contest from anywhere in India,” he said. (With inputs from agencies)
