SHILLONG: Malki SC caused one of the biggest upsets of the ongoing Shillong Premier League with a 1-0 win over Shillong Lajong FC on Wednesday, thereby placing the Reds in a precarious position in the league standings.

Prolific scorer Samson Nongrum was the ace in the pack for Malki after scoring the lone goal to place his team in front. Malki’s high-spirited performance ensured saw them apply pressure on their tougher rivals, which worked in their favour.

Malki had better ball possession along with some very near scoring chances. Fielding three foreign players along with the experience of Ronnie, Marlangki, Timmy and Brolington, Malki SC looked in a strong position throughout the game.

The only goal came in the 67th minute when Samson sent a well-timed rocket shot past Lajong’s keeper Lalruatpuia to secure the much-awaited lead for his team.
