Agartala: Setting aside all speculations, Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey said that the first phase of Palatana power project would be operational within August.
As per the schedule, the first unit of Palatana was supposed to be operational by last month.
But due to ‘unavoidable circumstance’ the commissioning of first unit of 726- MW power plant has been deferred.
The power supply would be increased after coming up of two power projects- Palatana and Manarchak in Tripura, he said after unveiling a booklet highlighting the activities in the field of Power sector at a press conference at Civil Secretariat.
The state is supposed to receive 98
MW power from the 726 MW Palatana power project.
Giving a brief achievement in the field of power sector, Dey on Wednesday said, the power generation has increased to 106 MW (2012) from 3 MW in 1972 while the number of consumers has increased from 7666 in 1972 to 5.29 lakh in 2012.
Dey said, the government has taken a perspective plan to expand electricity connection to each household.
“Altogether 18,474 km transmission line has been erected to provide power connection to each village across the state”, he said.
On the power generation, he said the power demand stands at 220 MW out of which the state generates 106 MW on its own.
“Tripura is supposed to draw 94-105 MW from the Central sector but it appears impossible to get the allocated share leading to power cut in the state”, he said.
Dey who also holds Labour department, highlighted the efforts for safeguarding the welfare of the people engaged in unorganized sector.
