LEEDS: Kevin Pietersen was not out on 149 at the end of play on day three as England moved to 351/5 in response to the Proteas’ 419 all out.

None of England’s other batsmen managed to reach 50 as South Africa’s bowlers seemed to have their measure on the Leeds track.

Always favouring an attacking style, Pietersen launched himself into the visitors’ bowling following the tea interval and he sent the South Africans to fetch the ball from the boundary with ease.

Pietersen hit 22 fours and one six in his innings and England will hope that he isn’t done just yet, as the hosts are still 68 runs behind South Africa’s first innings score.

The Proteas were also hit with the injury of Graeme Smith as he tried to field a ball. There has been no news as to its severity. (AP)
