Guwahati: The police has put in place strategies to counter any effort by the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) to engage in subversive activities in the run-up to Independence Day.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Kamrup Metro Aditya Prakash Tiwari on Saturday said various measures including surveillance, pickets and so on have been taken up to ensure that the militant groups are not able to disrupt peace in Guwahati.
Tiwari said ULFA cadres are working closely with other militant groups like the Meghalaya-based Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
“We cannot rule out the possibility that militant groups may try to create some disturbance. We have prepared strategies to counter any such effort,” Tiwari said here. The Assam police sounded a “general security alert” throughout the state in view of the threat from the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA faction to engage in subversive activities before August 15. (PTI)
