KINGSTON: After taking a 51-run lead over the West Indies following their first innings, New Zealand will be disappointed that they ended up losing the second Test here on Sunday by a margin of five wickets.
It was the spin of Sunil Narine (3/19) and Narsingh Deonarine (4/37), which caused the Kiwis the most problems on day three, leaving them all out for just 154.
The Windies were therefore given a target of 206, which they accomplished early on the fourth day.
Marlon Samuels was named Man-of-the-Match for his century in the first innings, followed up with a fifty in the second.
Kemar Roach, who was among the wickets in both Tests, was the Man-of-the-Series.
New Zealand were hit before the match after skipper Daniel Vettori picked up an injury and had to fly back home.
Darren Sammy, the Windies skipper, was understandbly proud.
“It’s a feeling we are getting used to, and it feels quite good. The way Marlon held the innings together in both innings, that spell from Narsingh yesterday, the performances are coming from different players at different time, that’s the hallmark of a good team,” he said. (Agencies)
