SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC overcame some last-minute worries to walk home with a 2-1 win over Lawmali Pyllun SC on Monday. Lalhlimthara was the man of the moment for Lajong, scoring both goals in the first half to place his side in a strong position.

With a higher percentage in ball possession, Lajong appeared to be cruising comfortably in the initial half with some quick and steady passes being made.

Lalhlimthara scored the first goal in the 24th minute and followed it up with another in the 36th minute. A left-footed cross by Bipin Singh allowed Lalhlimthara to easily head the ball in for his second goal. Bipin Singh almost made it three for the Reds after taking a powerful on-target shot that was beautifully saved by a diving Wallambor.

Lawmali finally scored a goal in the 55th minute after being awarded a free kick a few metres outside the penalty box. Kitbor Thangkiew took a low shot that pierced the wall and beat Lajong’s keeper Basant Singh. However, there was no real comeback for Lawmali as they were overpowered by the stronger Lajong side.

Lawmali’s skipper Teibor Siangshai and his posse commanded the midfield well to prevent the Reds from finding a third goal.

Lajong also fielded two new players; goalkeeper Bipin Singh and foreign striker Kevaughn Connell. This was Kevaughn’s first appearance for Lajong and his first ever match in India.
