NONGSTOIN: Residents of 18 villages under Warsanlyngdoh which have been included in the newly-inaugurated South West Khasi Hills district have threatened to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the State Government’s decision to include these villages in the new district.
The villagers under the banner of a joint action committee (JAC) have alleged that the State Government had not taken the consent of the villagers prior to the inclusion of these 18 villages in the new district. JAC chairman S Thongni has alleged that the State Government had included these villages merely to meet the population demands associated with creation of a new district.
Thongni said they have already approached the Government highlighting their problems and reasons for non-inclusion of these 18 villages in the new district.
Claiming that the State Government was behaving in a dictatorial manner and not listening to the complaints of the citizens, Thongni said they would take up the matter with Chief Secretary WMS Pariat one last time before filing the PIL.
Thongni also informed that the JAC would hold a public hearing on August 18 at Nongtynniaw in South West Khasi Hills to gather the general opinion of the people of the affected villages.
