SHILLONG: After the success of Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) and Shillong Supplementary Public Transport Service (SSPTS), the Urban Affairs department will launch the Shillong Special Transport System (SSTS) for school students and office goers.

Informing this here on Thursday, P Nail, Principal Secretary to Urban Affairs department, said the proposed service would be launched after the arrival of ten new buses.

Naik hoped that the new bus service would help in reducing congestion in the city.

“The 10 new buses are expected to arrive shortly and we will launch the service before the end of this month,” the senior government official said.

The buses will be operating for different schools, he said adding that a ‘smart ticket system’ would be introduced wherein students would pay bus fare on monthly basis.

At present the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) has designated a few buses for ferrying students of different schools.
