Mumbai:Abu Jundal, key 26/11 handler and suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, Sunday recorded his confessional statement before a Mumbai magistrate, a police official said.
Jundal, one of the masterminds of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, has reportedly provided details of the entire operation. The statement was recorded in the chamber of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate P.S. Rathod, the official said.
The recording of Jundal’s statement came a day before his custody is scheduled to end Monday.
Last week, a day after Jundal was brought face-to-face with the lone survivor among the 10 Pakistani terrorists involved in the attack, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, he voluntarily offered to give his confessional statement, which would be used as “testimonial evidence” in the Mumbai attack case.
The investigators will now study Jundal’s statement and check on the discrepancies in it in comparison with Kasab’s earlier confessional statements pertaining to Pakistan’s involvement in the 26/11.
Hailing from Beed district in Maharashtra, he was working in Saudi Arabia before being deported to India in June.
He was arrested by Delhi Police on arrival. (IANS)
