New Delhi: Lok Sabha was on Monday adjourned for the day over attack on persons from the North East in Mumbai, Pune and other places following ethic violence in Assam as agitated opposition BJP-Shiv Sena led NDA members trooped into the well.

The opposition members storming the Well demanding dismissal of the Congress-NCP coalition Government in Maharashtra on the issue.

As they stormed the well party leader Anant Geete condemned the incidents of “fanatic youths” attacking the police and the media and even damaging a martyrs’ memorial in Azad Maidan.

With the members mainly from BJP and Shiv Sena unrelenting, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 PM. But when the House reassembled, Shiv Sena members trooped into the well again and were joined by some BJP members who shouted slogans demanding dismissal of the Prithviraj Chavan government in the state and a statement from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who also represents Assam in Parliament.

Chanting slogans against the Maharashtra government, the Shiv Sena and BJP members forced Deputy Speaker Karia Munda to adjourn the House for the day.

Earlier Geete asked as to why permission was granted by the state government to the Raza Academy and Awami Vikas Party to hold the rally and alleged that the state government was caught unawares about the large number of people converging for the meet.

The situation worsened as Congress member Sanjay Nirupam, supported by his party colleagues, sought to defend the Maharashtra government.

This made Inder Singh Namdhari, who was in the Chair in the second half to adjourn the House ahead of the lunch recess.

In sporadic incidents students and others belonging to NE regin were beaten by mob in different places in Pune and Mumbai in past few days.

A delegation of NE students also submitted an application to Pune Police Commissioner who ordered a probe and appointed Crime Branch for investigation.

Meanwhile, two days after the Azad Maidan violence left two dead and over 50 injured following a protest here against the Assam riots, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today condemned the incident and urged the miscreants to “surrender” before police.

“Our heads are hanging in shame because of the incident. We are sorry for it,” said Haroon Mozawala, a AIMPLB member.

Mozawala spoke to media persons after he met the Mumbai Police Commissioner and other senior IPS officials to discuss the August 11 incident, when a protest against Assam riots turned violent as demonstrators torched vehicles and pelted stones, prompting police to fire in air and use batons to disperse the unruly mob. “Islam does not preach violence… it teaches to live in peace”, Mozawala added.

Mozawala appealed to those responsible for the Saturday violence to surrender.

“Anyways God is not going to forgive you.. but you can help the innocents, preventing their arrests by surrendering yourself to police,” he said.

Police had arrested 23 persons in connection with the violence and have booked the accused and the organisers for murder. (With inputs from PTI)
