Shillong: After a period of hibernation, the Laban Sports Club, one of the oldest clubs in the region, has once again set the ball rolling, infusing new blood into the executive committee with the aim of bringing a change in the club’s fortunes, especially ahead of its centenary in 2016.

LSC, founded in 1916, was known for its football team that produced several state and regional-level footballers. However, the club experienced a decline and was relegated to the third division of the Shillong Sports Association league.

Aiming to revive the team, an extraordinary meeting was held and it was decided to elect new office bearers and a brand new executive committee.

The gathering elected Sammy Myrthong as the new president and Irene Hujon and Joweldeen Nongkynrih as vice presidents, while both Vernon Syiem and Nicholas Myrthong were elected as general secretary and assistant GS, respectively.

Affirming his commitment towards the club, Sammy Myrthong said, “I am new to such a responsibility but I am confident that together we shall achieve our cherished dream of keeping the flag of the club flying as high as ever.”
