TURA: The militant group ANVC-B has called for a 12 hour Garo Hills bandh on Friday demanding the resignation of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of GHADC Purno K Sangma and his deputy Brigady Marak.

The militant outfit has accused the GHADC chief and his deputy of siphoning off money collected at the Council toll gates.

The chief of the so called anti-corruption wing of the ANVC-B, Nawang Sangma, issued a press statement on Wednesday informing that the 12-hour bandh would be effective from 5 am to 5 pm.

The outfit accused the CEM and his deputy of accumulating large sum of money through bribes in return for giving out toll gates and markets at throwaway prices causing the Council treasury to lose lakhs of rupees.

The ANVC-B also alleged that the CEM has allowed setting up of TNT gates along the NH 62 to collect money illegally on the pretext of checking licences of non-tribal traders.

“The CEM has allowed toll gates to be set up on the National Highway 62 violating the Supreme Court ruling which has banned illegal toll gates on any highway,” said Sangma.

The militant group said that the corrupt people should resign before the Council sinks into unrecoverable debts and warned that failure to heed to the same would bring in series of agitations which will adversely affect their political party.

“People should save the Council and resist becoming a minority in the state as the irregularities in the council have forced some employees into adopting unfair means which resulted in regularizing outsiders illegally.”
