Maxi Taxis to be launched in Tura today

 TURA: The much awaited Maxi Taxis which will be flagged off by Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh is all set to hit the roads of Tura by August 23.

The Maxi cabs under Tura Supplementary Public Transport Service (TSPTS) will be launched on August 23 in an elaborate function organized by the Department of Urban Affairs in collaboration with the Tura Municipal Board at the premises of Tura District Auditorium.

The maxi taxis were sanctioned for Meghalaya under the 13th Finance Commission and was first launched in state capital in the month of January this year. It has had a successful run so far.

The Municipal Affairs department will be entrusted to run the maxi taxis but the service will be outsourced to Nokrek Midan Transport Society (SHG) on a 50/50 revenue sharing basis under Public-private-partnership (PPP) mode.

Among others expected to attend the launching ceremony are Urban Affairs OSD, T Lyngwa, Urban Affairs Director, K Panda, West garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi and Tura Municipal Board Chairman, K C Momin.
