SHILLONG: The HNYF (Northern Region) locked the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Ri-Bhoi district after the Government failed to respond to its demand for transfer of a senior officer of the office.

HNYF (Northern Region) president Banpynskhem Kharnaior said that the organisation had demanded the immediate transfer of the officer Joyshree Shabong who allegedly failed to perform her duties efficiently.

“We were forced to take this drastic step (of locking the office) since the Government failed to transfer the senior officer despite the two-week deadline,” Kharnaior said.

Kharnaior further threatened that if the Government failed to transfer the senior officer in the next one week, the HNYF would be forced to hold night road blockade to press for its demand.

Replying to a query, he said that through an RTI which the organisation had filed, it had established the incompetency of the senior officer who failed to assist the people who visited the office to know about various schemes and programmes of the Government.
