TURA: Secretary of the GHADC parliamentary party, Willing Ch Sangma, has clarified on the ANVC (B)’s accusations of corruption and misappropriations in the Council.

Stating that the settlement of coal markets and taxation gates are made on the strength of the GHADC EC, Sangma said, “It is not that the settlement should necessarily be given to the highest bidder but the right to settlement is reserved with the Executive Committee as it is always mentioned in the Notice Inviting Tenders while calling tenders.”

He said that the reason for not giving settlements to the highest bidders is because many a times they are unable to recover their bid amounts and even deposit the earnest money since their bidding figure is sometimes even more than the government rate.

He also added that as far as matters relating to the checking of influx are concerned, it is a State Subject and there is no mechanism in the District Council to detect and deport illegal migrants.
