SHILLONG: NCP central observer for Northeastern states, Robert Kharshiing, is expected to meet NCP legislator and Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly, Sanbor Shullai, and suspended party legislator Adolf Lu Hitler R Marak on Monday and hold discussions on how to strengthen the party.
“We would also make efforts to get the 12 party legislators who have joined the Nationalist People’s Party back into the party fold,” Kharshiing said on Sunday.
He, however, said that the party would want to give a ‘breathing space’ to the 12 legislators who had been associated with the party for the past 13 years.
“One should understand that the Anti-Defection law was passed in Parliament and not in the Assembly. The law is very clear that once you are elected to any party you would have to be loyal to that party,” Kharshiing said, while reacting to the defection by the party MLAs.
“The NCP is a national party. If there has to be a merger it has to be at the national level,” Kharshiing maintained.
On the suspension of Adolf from the Assembly, Kharshiing said that the party high command has been asked to review the suspension against the legislator
