SHILLONG: The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) is currently in the process of finalizing the firm which will construct a state-of-the-art inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) at Tura.

Informing this here on Monday, sources from the Urban Affairs department said the NBCC has been directed to finish all the necessary formalities at the earliest.

The proposed ISBT is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the second largest town of the State which has become congested in the recent times.

For the project, the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 45 crore (90 per cent) and the NBCC will bear remaining 10 per cent of the total project cost.

Sources also informed that the Government is committed to commission the project within the stipulated times.

Once completed, this ISBT will accommodate fifty buses.

It is learnt that the land acquisition for the project is not an issue since the proposed ISBT would be constructed on a plot of land belonging to the Veterinary department, adding the project will be commissioned in three years from the date of allotment.

The State Government also has plans to construct an ISBT and Inter-State Truck Terminus (ISTT) at Mawiong and Sumer respectively.
