‘Inculcation of values an urgent necessity’

 Shillong: The growing concern over the rapid change in the lifestyle of the people especially the youth has tickled the minds of many who felt that the same should be tackled with by inculcating valuable values to the young ones, Assistant Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission and Math, Kolkata, Revered Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj said.

Expressing his fear over the gradual loss of values among the young people, Maharaj said that there arose a growing need to promote values that could be inculcated in the minds of young children adding that “It is the duty of the elders to lead the way and pass on these traditional values to these young children”.

Swami Suviranandaji was addressing a gathering at the ‘Sustained Graded Value Education Programme’ organised by the Laitumkhrah Bengali Secondary School as part of the celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the school premises here on Wednesday.

Maharaj drew his attention to the parents and the teachers recommending them to impart valuable lessons to their kids while they are still at their nascent stage. In her speech District School Education officer, EKH, T. Lyngdoh said, “Children are like clay that can be molded and shaped into different forms, the images of which will last forever.”

The Ramakrishna Math and Mission are twin organizations which form the core of a worldwide spiritual movement, aiming at the harmony of religions, harmony of the East and the West, harmony of the ancient and the modern, spiritual fulfillment, all round development of human faculties, social equality, and peace for all humanity, without any distinctions of creed, cast, race or nationality.

The programme saw the participation of over 85 students from 15 schools in the city.
