Protests against attack on journalists continue in Assam

Guwahati: Protests against attacks on media persons in the state during Tuesday’s bandh continued across Assam with journalists joined by civil society members in registering in their agitational programmes.

Journalists in Guwahati sat on a demonstration in the city and wore black badges as a sign of protests.

They also raised slogans demanding security of on-duty media persons and accountability of the people who target and attack the journalists.

Similar protests were also staged in various parts of the state, including Barpeta Road, Nagaon, north Guwahati and other places.

Civil society members and various organizations also joined the protests and demanded security for the journalists.

The journalists have been protesting attacks on on-duty journalists during a statewide bandh on August 28 last, in which several journalists were injured.

The bandh was called by All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) and protests have been directed against the AAMSU, with a media boycott of the outfit declared for next three months. (UNI)
