Hubli, Karnataka: Unprecedented security was witnessed in front of Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar’s residence here following arrest of suspected terrorists who stayed just three houses away from his residence.
Taking no chance, police had put up barricades near the house of Mr Shettar who arrived here this morning on official tour to participate in various functions.
Mr Shetter assured the people of Hubli-Dharwad that there was no need to panic over arrest of five suspected terrorists in the City.
‘The government is taking all measures to see that no untoward incident takes place and they (terorists) will not succeed in their evil-plans, including creating communal tension and killing VVIPs and other important personalities.
The arrest of 11 suspected terrorists having links with international terrorist organisations, including LeT and banned Indian Mujahiddin, on August 30 in Bangalore and Hubli had sent a shock waves in this communally-sensitive city.
Meanwhile, all the arrested terrorists have been remanded to police custody for 14 days by a Magistrate before whom they were presented.
According to sources, the arrested have revealed that they were planning to eliminate important personalities including Legislators, Journalists, and even attack Atomic Power Plant at Kaiga.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok, who also holds Home portfolio, expressing concern over terrorist network in the State, yesterday said ‘since there is information about the arrested terrorists having links with international organisations, the help of Interpol will be sought through the Union Government.’
‘Free hand has been given to police who are questioning the arrested. No stone will be left unturned in an attempt to put an end to terrorist activities in the State,’ he added. Police are maintaining secrecy and questioning the arrested in secret places. (UNI)
